Project 1: Wardrobe with shoe cabinet

The two most important elements to keep order in the entrance area are a large shoe cabinet and a coat rack. Especially in winter, it also should be able to hold heavy winter jackets.

To save space, today we'll show you two ways to combine the two to create a real eye-catcher in your hallway.

What materials do you need?

Step 3: Fasten the clothes rail using the enclosed screws

Depending on the wall, the screws can also hold in the wall without dowels. Try it out and drill a screw into the wall without a dowel. If you can't pull it out by hand, the DIY clothes rail should hold without a dowel.

Mounting with dowels:
1. Mark all holes and drill holes for dowels with drill bit
2. Insert all dowels into drilled holes
3. Mount clothes rail to the wall with black screws

And ready is the clothes rail for all your jackets on top of the shoe cabinet!

Step 1: Determine the length of the boards for the shoes

1. Use the upper part of the clothes rail as a scale to determine a suitable size for the lower boards

2. Mark suitable length by dots

3. Cut boards with jigsaw

( Repeat steps 1-3 for second board)

4. Sand the boards to avoid sharp edges

Step 2: Saw the strip to size and screw it on

To attach the boards to the wall later, you need to screw a ledge to the board

1. Measure the length for the strip so that it is about 4cm shorter than the board from step 1. It should not stick out at the edge

2. Now cut the strip to the measured length and drill two holes in the front and back to be able to screw it to the board

4. Turn the strip by 90 degrees, drill 2 more holes to be able to attach the strip to the wall later on

5. Screw the strip to the board (the other 2 holes must be directed outwards)

Step 3: Drill holes in the boards

To attach the boards to the clothes rail later, holes must be drilled in the correct position using the Forstner bit.

1. Mark the center of the board and take the upper part of the FRED clothes rail to mark the correct distance

2. At the marked point, draw the perimeter of the clothes rail

3. Using the Forstner drill, drill a hole completely through the board and sand the edges of the hole

Step 4: Attach bar to fix board to clothes rail

To properly attach the board to the clothes rail water pipe later, a small ledge is screwed in front of the hole.

1. Fasten small piece of wood (approx. 5 cm long) in front of the hole with 2 screws

2. Drill a third screw through the piece of wood to clamp clothes rail later on

Step 5: Glaze boards (optional)

For a prettier end result, the boards can be glazed in your favorite shade. This allows the grain to stand out better.

1. Choose glaze (for example, walnut wood stain)

2. Spread glaze evenly on board with brush

3. Allow boards to dry

Step 6: Fasten boards

1. Insert rod through holes of boards (thread board from above)

2. screw upper part of the clothes rail on to the lower part

3. When the boards are in the right position on the wall, screw them in place -> through the holes of the bar

4. Tighten the screw in the small bar at the hole until there is enough hold

Step 7: Mount clothes rail on the wall

Depending on the wall, screws can also hold in the wall without dowels -> simply try it out with a screw without dowels to see if it offers enough stability

Mounting with dowels:

1. Mark all holes and drill holes for dowels with drill. Insert dowels into the drilled holes.

2. Fasten clothes rail to wall with included black screws - And ready is the clothes rail for coats and 2 pairs of shoes.
